Statistics say that there are about 10,000 reported chimney fires each year. My experience is that only about half of the post-chimney fire sweeps I do are reported, so the actual number of chimney fires is probably nearer double this figure.

Soot dust particles are tiny, but very abrasive. If you have a problem with soot falling back down the chimney, try to remove any dust with a dry duster before cleaning surfaces with liquid cleaners
